Buying a ceramic kiln costs a great deal and calls for the right space, a safe installation and real command of firing. Renting a ceramic kiln is now the simplest and most flexible way to fire your work, whether you are a beginner, an amateur or a working ceramicist.
Why rent a ceramic kiln?
Renting a ceramic kiln gives you professional equipment without buying it, maintaining it or wrestling with firing programmes. Ceramispot lets you find a ceramic kiln to rent near you, offered by studios and ceramicists all over France, in cities and in the countryside alike.
Skip the heavy investment
Buying a ceramic kiln is a considerable investment, sometimes several thousand euros. Between the purchase price, the dedicated electrical installation and the space it needs, the costs mount quickly. With Ceramispot you get to professional kilns near you without that burden — beginner, amateur or working ceramicist alike.
Fire at your own pace
No fixed timetable to fit into. You send a firing request to the ceramicist of your choice and you agree together on a drop-off slot that suits you. One piece or a whole series, you arrange your firings around your own pace of work.
Benefit from professional guidance
Going through a local ceramicist gets you more than a kiln: you get their experience and their advice. Clay body, ideal temperature, glaze preparation — ask through the Ceramispot messaging, before and after the firing. That is worth a great deal when you are starting out.
Flexibility for one-off projects
Renting suits one-off or seasonal projects perfectly. A temporary exhibition, a special commission, a handmade gift, a burst of making: you pay only for what you actually need, without a kiln standing idle at home for months.
How do you get your work fired on Ceramispot?
Getting your pottery fired on Ceramispot is straightforward, and takes four steps.
1. Find a ceramic kiln near you
Browse the kilns available in your town or region. Every listing sets out the type of kiln — electric or gas — the capacity (50 L to 300 L and beyond), the maximum temperature and the firings on offer: bisque, glaze, raku, high temperature.
2. Send a firing request
Click “Request a firing” and describe your work: clay body (earthenware, stoneware, porcelain), firing wanted, number and rough size of the pieces. You can add a photograph so the ceramicist can judge whether it suits their kiln.
3. The ceramicist approves and confirms a slot
They check that your pieces suit their kiln and offer you a drop-off slot through the Ceramispot messaging. Once you agree, secure payment is made online on the platform.
4. Drop your pieces off, collect them fired
You leave your work at the ceramicist's studio. Once the firing is done and the kiln has cooled, you get a notification to come and collect. Need advice on preparation or glazing? The messaging stays open throughout.
The types of ceramic kiln available
Electric kiln — high temperature, up to 1280 °C
The electric kiln is the most common on Ceramispot. It gives excellent temperature control and handles most firings: bisque, glaze, earthenware, stoneware — and porcelain too on high-temperature models.
Small capacity (50 L) — ideal for short runs
Perfect for makers working on delicate pieces or in small numbers. Usually the most affordable rate.
Medium volume (80–100 L) — Versatile
The most versatile size: it takes medium pieces just as happily as several small ones at once.
Large capacity (200 L and up) — professional scale
For ambitious projects, long runs or bulky pieces. Usually offered by well-equipped professional studios.
Gas kiln — reduction atmosphere, up to 1300 °C
The gas kiln creates a reduction atmosphere that gives effects an electric firing simply cannot: shifts of colour, flame marks, organic finishes. Ideal for high-temperature firings — stoneware, porcelain — and for techniques of their own such as raku.
