Good photos show off your work… and help a lot when you ask for feedback or a diagnosis. You don't need professional equipment.
Light
- Take your photos in daylight, near a window, but out of direct sun.
- Avoid flash: it flattens textures and distorts the glaze's true tones.
- A sheet of white paper or card placed facing the window lights up the shadowy areas.
Background
- A plain, neutral background (light wall, bedsheet, card) shows off the piece.
- Clear away any clutter: the eye should go straight to the piece.
Framing
- An overall shot, then one or two close-ups of a detail: the texture, the glaze, the foot.
- For a defect, show it up close and add something for scale, like a coin or a ruler.
- Wipe your phone's lens: a single fingerprint is enough to make the photo blurry.
